Super Woman

At the tech company I work, there is an organization called Super Women Group. They run seminars, workshops and education sessions intending to help women grow in their career. I don't usually attend many sessions, although I received invitations and emails from them all the time.

It is not easy to be a working woman. Not only one has to perform well at work in a consistent basis, at home, she equally has to do her due diligence with daily cooking and chores. This weekend was one of those super woman days for me.

Yesterday I stayed home while Jack and the doggies went to the beach. I had to finish most of my Yoga Teacher Training mid-term, which it is due next Friday evening.

I started working on my mid-term a little after 12:30. I finished three quarter of the work around 4 PM. Then I took a short break and went to the local Italian caffe, as I wanted to get some cake for my birthday. All they had that I liked were tiramisu and creme brulee, so I bought one each. When I got home, I took a bite of the creme brulee, and it was so creamy and rich it made me happy. Around the time Jack and the doggies came back, I was two questions away from finishing my mid-term. It was a good day for me because I was able to review what I learned the last two months, cross referencing the class notes, manual and various books. I felt that if I had more time and energy, I would have done this earlier and I would retain more of the knowledge. In between of my studies, I also did the dishes and a load of laundry.

This morning I started early. I spent the first hour and a half sweeping, mopping, vacuuming the house down, as I have not done so for months since my house-keeper left the country. While I was cleaning up the house, I was moping over the fact that my cousins in Guangzhou had helpers to cook their meals, take care of their kids and clean their houses. Sigh, I was still getting the short end of the straw. After house cleaning I made eggs for the two of us, then I did more laundry and dishes. You know, dish cleaning is a never-ending task, and as long as you eat, you have to clean up after yourself, and that's why it is called a chore. After lunch, I worked on the last two mid-term questions including an essay question. Finally we left home to take the dogs for a walk/swim at around 1:30 PM.

We came back after an early dinner to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at El Torito. I did some more laundry, picked up the kitchen and water the plants, then finished the last bit of my mid-term.

As I walk around the clean house, I am so proud of myself for this productive weekend.
