It dawned on me

Last night we watched the last Star Trek movie. At the end of the show, Spock's voice said: "space, the final frontier..."

All of  a sudden, it dawned on me, what if space is not the final frontier? What if there is something even beyond space that we couldn't even imagine?

Way back when, people used to think the earth was flat, and they thought all the stars, planets including the sun were evolving around the earth. The Chinese used to think China was the middle-land between heaven and earth. They were eventually proven wrong by modern technology.

I bet there is something beyond what we think of as the final frontier, there's got to be something else out there.

Remember, you read it from this blog first! :)

More on power foods

It is hard to break a habit, especially eating habit. These days I learned from some incidents, which allow me to recognized two things, one is what is a good breakfast for me; secondly, how to consume and appreciate power foods without feeling starved.

I usually eat my breakfast at around 10 o'clock, because that's when I am hungry. I don't like cereals at all, and i don't care for bread either, so my choice of acceptable breakfast is very limited, and thats why i skip breakfast more often than not.

This one day I drove to the office at my normal time, around 9 to 10, and I felt parched. I was hungry and I felt weak and tired. When I got to the office, I wondered where to get energy to sustain me all day. I drank half a cup of fresh coffee and ate half of a croissant. To my pleasant surprise, I was very awake the rest of the day. I was amazed that the food I ate could give me so much energy.

As far as the second lesson, I learned it over the last two months when I was taking weekend yoga teacher training. These are months of weekend all-day classes, which requires I learn how to pack food for my breaks. It's unlike lunch at work when I can just bring left over from last night, as we can't bring meat into the yoga studio. Also we can't eat too heavy, as we will do yoga asana from time to time.

At the first couple weekends, I just scrambled to get food from home, and it sometimes ended up not being enough. So over the months I learn to shop smart to prepare for the weekend. For a given weekend training day, I would bring one banana, one orange, a piece of bread, a cup of yogurt, a energy bar, and some nuts. Plus water, tea, and maybe coconut water. Keeping myself hydrating is most important. Good food with good yoga practices make me feel healthier.

A good advice

I received a good advice from a special person yesterday: when you are debating whether to do something which will require lots of energy and time, stop to think, and don't do it.

When in doubt

These two weeks, I had a break from my weekend Yoga Teacher Training, as we were supposed to use this break to work on our take-home mid-term.

Last Saturday, instead of working on my mid-term or going kiteboarding, I went to the mall after walking the doggies at the beach. I was like a little kid in the candy store, except that I was a woman with sandy shoes and a few credit cards in my pocket.

I went to five fashion clothing stores to check out the latest styles. I even tried out some cloths before Jack called me at five. Even though I was only at the mall for less than 2 hours and I didn't buy anything, I was very satisfied. I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to go to the mall for months. This was like a reunion with a dear old friend.

When in doubt, go to the mall.

Super Woman

At the tech company I work, there is an organization called Super Women Group. They run seminars, workshops and education sessions intending to help women grow in their career. I don't usually attend many sessions, although I received invitations and emails from them all the time.

It is not easy to be a working woman. Not only one has to perform well at work in a consistent basis, at home, she equally has to do her due diligence with daily cooking and chores. This weekend was one of those super woman days for me.

Yesterday I stayed home while Jack and the doggies went to the beach. I had to finish most of my Yoga Teacher Training mid-term, which it is due next Friday evening.

I started working on my mid-term a little after 12:30. I finished three quarter of the work around 4 PM. Then I took a short break and went to the local Italian caffe, as I wanted to get some cake for my birthday. All they had that I liked were tiramisu and creme brulee, so I bought one each. When I got home, I took a bite of the creme brulee, and it was so creamy and rich it made me happy. Around the time Jack and the doggies came back, I was two questions away from finishing my mid-term. It was a good day for me because I was able to review what I learned the last two months, cross referencing the class notes, manual and various books. I felt that if I had more time and energy, I would have done this earlier and I would retain more of the knowledge. In between of my studies, I also did the dishes and a load of laundry.

This morning I started early. I spent the first hour and a half sweeping, mopping, vacuuming the house down, as I have not done so for months since my house-keeper left the country. While I was cleaning up the house, I was moping over the fact that my cousins in Guangzhou had helpers to cook their meals, take care of their kids and clean their houses. Sigh, I was still getting the short end of the straw. After house cleaning I made eggs for the two of us, then I did more laundry and dishes. You know, dish cleaning is a never-ending task, and as long as you eat, you have to clean up after yourself, and that's why it is called a chore. After lunch, I worked on the last two mid-term questions including an essay question. Finally we left home to take the dogs for a walk/swim at around 1:30 PM.

We came back after an early dinner to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at El Torito. I did some more laundry, picked up the kitchen and water the plants, then finished the last bit of my mid-term.

As I walk around the clean house, I am so proud of myself for this productive weekend.

What To Do in a Rainy Sunday Before Election Tuesday?

It’s June 5th, 2022, and we are graced by unseasonal pouring rain. We rejoice with gratitude. We went to Main Street to have breakfast, then...
